Dear Friends and Supporters,
I write to tell you some sad news.
After a lot of soul-searching the Edwards family and the Trustees have decided to close the Alexander Edwards Trust.
We have lost many sponsors due to the recession and poor economic climate in the UK, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to raise funds. Also, our nurse, Mr MBoob is retiring, he is now 61 and feels he has done his bit and would like to live on the coast with his family.
It was always the plan that when the clinic was built and running, that it would be handed to the village to manage, with Stella overseeing it. It has been difficult since we lost Stella to run the clinic from the UK. In the future, a new charity may be formed, and the clinic operated from this, but at the moment it will close at the end of this month, and remain so for the forseable future. With the new road, it is now not so difficult for people to travel to other clinics, such as Kuntuar and Wasu. Rest assured that the village elders will take care of the clinic, and the clinic will remain as a lasting tribute to Alexander Edwards and his family who built it in his memory.
Thank you, ALL of you, for your wonderful help in the past, everyone who has been involved with the clinic have made such a big difference to the people of Sambel Kunda and the surrounding villages, and we, and they, are truly grateful to you all.
